Dr. Cara G. Focazio, MD
Dr. Cara Focazio believes exceptional healthcare begins with listening. As a board-certified Internal Medicine physician with more than a decade of experience, she partners with her patients to develop personalized care plans that support long-term health, prevent disease, and improve quality of life. Her philosophy is simple: “You know your body better than anyone. Tell me what’s been happening.” She believes that truly hearing her patients is the foundation of exceptional medical care.
Dr. Focazio is committed to helping patients prevent illness, effectively manage chronic conditions, and achieve healthier lives through compassionate, evidence-based care. She believes symptoms should never be dismissed simply because they are common or difficult to explain. Every concern deserves thoughtful evaluation, and every patient deserves to feel heard. While evidence-based Internal Medicine remains the cornerstone of her practice, she also recognizes the important role that nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and other healthy lifestyle strategies play in preventing disease, supporting healing, and promoting lifelong wellness.
Dr. Focazio earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and remains committed to lifelong learning, including advanced education in Functional Medicine and Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare. While her practice is firmly rooted in evidence-based Internal Medicine, she values continuing education that broadens her understanding of emerging approaches to preventive care and patient health.
Prior to joining Lackawanna Medical Group, Dr. Focazio practiced outpatient Internal Medicine with Lehigh Valley Health Network–Pocono, now part of Jefferson Health, where she cared for patients with both routine and highly complex medical conditions while serving in physician leadership. She has a special interest in preventive medicine, chronic disease management, and helping patients improve their overall health through sustainable, lifestyle-focused care. In addition to caring for patients, she serves as a clinical preceptor for future nurse practitioners, helping educate the next generation of healthcare providers.
Dr. Focazio believes that trust, education, and open communication are the cornerstones of exceptional patient care. She takes the time to understand each patient’s unique health goals and works collaboratively to develop individualized treatment plans that support longevity, improve quality of life, and help people live healthier, fuller, and more meaningful lives.
